The Barra MacNeils
The Barra MacNeils are celebrating four decades of music and family tradition with An East Coast Christmas: 40th Anniversary Tour, bringing their signature blend of Celtic music, Christmas classics and East Coast traditions to stages across Canada this winter. With several dates already sold out, the tour is shaping up to be a must-see holiday tradition.
For four decades, the five MacNeil siblings – Lucy, Boyd, Stewart, Kyle and Sheumas – have shared their Cape Breton roots with audiences across Canada and beyond. Their annual Christmas show draws directly from the traditions they grew up with, from family ceilidhs and midnight masses to the music and gatherings that have brought generations of MacNeils together during the holidays.
“Forty years since our first album was released! It’s been such a great year celebrating with tours right across Canada,” said Stewart from The Barra MacNeils. “The shows were so well received by new and seasoned fans alike. Our year will be highlighted by our annual trek across Canada from British Columbia to Cape Breton celebrating the Holiday Season with our fan favourite ‘An East Coast Christmas’. See you at the show!”
An East Coast Christmas brings together the sounds and traditions that have defined The Barra MacNeils throughout their career, moving from Gaelic ballads and Christmas favourites to foot-stomping instrumentals and step-dancing revelry. The siblings perform on an impressive array of instruments including accordion, guitar, piano, fiddle, bodhrán, mandolin, banjo, Celtic harp, tin whistles, bouzouki and flute, joined on bass by Jamie Gatti.
The Barra MacNeils will bring their show to stages across Canada throughout November and December, with stops in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
